The Canada Day when the Baby Hated the Beach

You know those days where nothing amazing happens, but when all is said and done, you just feel like you had an amazing time? That was pretty much my weekend.

I spent Saturday night with boyfriend. While the night didn't turn out anything like we planned, we had a few drinks with one of his friends, and getting out for awhile that night. Since things had been a little less than perfect lately, it was nice to get out and have a little fun without our daughters.

On Sunday (Canada Day!) we took the girls to the beach. It was the first time for both of them. His daughter (17 months) just loved it, but my fragile little 9 month old hated it. She cried from the moment I sunscreened her up, the whole time we sat on the towel, the whole time I carried her around the beach, and freaked when I let her try to kick in the water. Needless to say, I opted out of actually sitting her in the water. I took her up to the grassy area, into the shade and after a lot of attempts at distracting her, she became semi-happy girl again.

This is how baby girl felt about the beach

Much better :)

We were only by ourselves for about 15 minutes, and I felt bad for cutting our beach time short. I would've been okay with sitting alone longer, but boyfriend is too nice for that stuff. I got some pretty gorgeous photos of her in the meantime, and before we left the beach for the day, we got a "family photo" of me, boyfriend, and the girls.

A few weeks ago, we made an attempt at having a sleepover with both babies, which failed miserably, and after a busy day for everyone, we decided last minute to try again last night. I had my doubts that it would go smoothly, but a night of interrupted sleep sounded better than having the two of them go home.

There was something just... nice about having them there and going through the bedtime routine. Both girls were fed, changed, bathed and put to bed. It's lovely when exhausted babies go right to sleep, because I've learned that's not always the case. It was even more lovely when we were finally ready to just lay around on the couch together before bed.

His daughter woke up twice, and I was worried because my super light sleeper didn't wake up at all. A gift to me, I suppose.

The alarm rang way too early at 6:30 am for me to get up for work.
